Alex Ip, bass, a native of Hong Kong, has studied voice with numerous masters, including the world-renowned bass-baritone Mr. Sze Yi-kwei (Rochester Eastman School of Music), famed vocal educator Madame Zhou Xiao-yan (Shanghai Conservatory of Music), and Chinese-American baritone Mr. Zhou Zheng (Shanghai Conservatory of Music). Alex obtained his professional degrees from Oxford University, Caltech and Haas School of UC Berkeley.

Alex is an active member on the stage – he has sung such roles as Figaro in Marriage of Figaro, Papageno in Magic Flute, Duke in Romeo and Juliet, Page in Roberto Devereux, and has performed in opera productions including Rigoletto, Aida, La Boheme and Madama Butterfly. Alex is also an active concert artist and has sung as soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Haydn’s Nelson Mass etc. Alex has performed with a variety of groups including the San Francisco Pocket Opera, Opera Hong Kong, Shanghai International Festival of Chorus, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Voices of the Valley, Caltech Glee Club and Oxford Bach Choir. Alex was the recipient of the first prize awards in Hong Kong Music Festival, under both the men’s voice and open group sections.
